Chansons de Malmariée

— May 2024

Opus : 68 / Type d'œuvre : Pour voix et instrument(s)

Based on 4 traditional songs from Anjou, Brittany, Normandy and Touraine, I have written a kind of little opera, transposing the melodies into a lyrical language with a strong dramaturgy, highlighting these texts the apparent lightness of which conceals sordid realities. The central piece is in freer language.

Recording, extracts: CD “Je me suis en allée …”, Méliades vocal quartet, Anaïs Vintour, Delphine Cadet, Marion Delcourt and Corinne Bahuaud.

Difficulty rating: moderate to difficult

Texts from the repertoire of traditional French songs from the regions of Anjou, Brittany, Normandy and Touraine, for pieces 1, 2, 4 and 5.

I wrote the text for the central piece, n°3, to ensure the continuity of the story.

French (sometimes close to patois)

4 women’s voices SSAA, glockenspiel or celesta (or possibly a cappella)

Detailed cycle : scenes 1 à 5,

1.  C’est d’main qu’tu t’maries ; 2. J’allons nous marier ; 3. Oh la nuit ; 4. Ah que les femmes ; 5. Allons-y, belle
